  Employment Act

THE FIGHT CONTINUES

The Basic Conditions of Employment Act, which is still being heavily debated on all levels and by all industries, remains a priority of CATRA. We continue to make urgent representation to Government on behalf of our industry, which strongly opposes the reduced working hours and the proposed double pay on Sundays. Our objectives relate to the nature of the food service industry, which is unique in its labour structure and to the small business sector at large, who need to be considered separately and concessions made accordingly. We would like to assure our members that we have not given up the fight and will continue to make strong representations pertaining to this new legislation.

CATRA continues to play a crucial role in making recommendations on the various Acts promulgated by Government and continues to work with various bodies on issues that are pertinent to its members and the industry at large.

Some of the issues are:

  • Tenants Rights and Equity of Leases

  • The protection of the small business operator
  • The lack of adequate training in our industry
  • The escalating crime rate, affecting members in our industry
  • The Labour Relations Act
  • The Tobacco products Control Act
