APPLLICATION FOR A NEW LIQUOR LICENCE
IN TERMS OF SECTON 23 OF THE GAUTENG LIQUOR ACT, 2003

Procedure :
Applications are submitted with the Gauteng Liquor Board on the first Friday of each month.
Two (2) weeks prior to such date of submission, notice must be given in the Provincial Gazette and in two local newspapers. Applications are subject a 21-day Objection period and can take 3-4 months, or even longer to be finalised.

Standard Information and Documents required :

  1. Full address of the proposed premises, including erf number.
  2. Certified copies of i.d documents.
  3. Copy of registration documents.
  4. Short CV of applicant (members / directors).
  5. Declaration of all financial interests in the liquor trade (if any) in South Africa.
  6. Proof of right of occupation e.g. lease.
  7. A list of similar licence's, churches and schools, within 1 kilometre from the proposed premises.
  8. A site plan of the property, showing all buildings on it and drawn to scale.
  9. A floor plan of the premises, showing the internal (or proposed) lay out, all equipment, the furniture arrangement, fixtures and fittings, plus all dimensions and drawn to scale.
  10. A Police "Certificate of Suitability" of the applicant and the director / member issued by the SAPS.
  11. A Tax Clearance Certificate of the applicant and any director / member issued by SARS.
  12. Membership of a Liquor Traders Association.

NB:All the above documents / information are required before any application can be submitted, as there is a provision in the Gauteng Act that - should an application be refused - the applicant will be prohibited for 1 year to reapply the same premises.

In the case of applications for a tavern , pool club, pub and liquor store licence, the specific consent of the relevant metropolitan council in addition to any zoning certificate, is required.
